Andesite Mervignon wine is a blend of estate grown rich, dense, fruity Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a concentration of black cherry, current, blackberry, and spicy flavors.  A small amount of specially selected Cabernet Franc takes the blend to very smooth and pleasant lasting finish.

Andesite Vineyard is at the 2000-foot level of Spring Mountain The vineyard has a microclimate perfect for Bordeaux-style varieties and a soil rich with andesite volcanic rock that provides for excellent vine root structure and development.  The vineyard has multiple sun exposures and a mountain saddle through which flows a river of cool night air.  This natural combination of soil, warm days and cool nights produces superior grapes, not measured by tons, but by the depth and quality of the wine.

The vineyard is a personal hands-on project of the proprietors.  Our goal is to produce the best wine possible from this incredible Spring Mountain District terroir.  The wine making philosophy of the proprietor growers and wine maker Kenn Vigoda was to let the grapes express themselves.

We started tasting when sugar got over 23 brix.  Because our varied micro growing conditions spread peak flavor development over time, we flagged good tasting fruit until we selected a half-ton lot.  This selection by taste is a crucial key to producing the finest wine and usually takes a week or two.

Separate vinification of each small lot in French oak provides the components of the final Mervignon blend.
