Andesite Vineyard occupies the heart of the old Robinson property
at the 2000-foot level five miles up Spring Mountain road from St. Helena.
The
vineyard has a microclimate perfect for
Bordeaux-style varieties and a soil rich with andesite volcanic rock that
provides for excellent vine root structure and development. The
vineyard has multiple sun exposures and occupies a mountain saddle through
which flows a river of cool night air. This natural combination of
soil, warm days and cool nights produces superior grapes, not measured by
tons, but by the depth and quality of the wine.
The
vineyard is a personal hands-on project of the proprietors. Our goal
is to produce the best wine possible from this incredible Spring Mountain
District terroir. The wine making philosophy is to let the grapes
express themselves.
Andesite Mervignon is the only wine produced. It is a smooth
blend of estate grown Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and touch of Cabernet
Franc.
Annual
production is limited to about 150 cases by both the growing practices used
in our efforts to produce the best quality fruit and by the limited number
of vines that we planted.
We
normally harvest in selected half-ton lots because our varied micro growing
conditions spread peak flavor development over time. This selection
by taste is a crucial key to producing the finest wine.
Separate vinification of each small lot in French oak
provides the components of the final Mervignon blend
